A street cat in Risan

On a narrow paved street in Risan, the oldest town in Montenegro’s Bay of Kotor, sits a cat. Its tiger-striped fur contrasts with the pale gray stone slabs, while its yellow eyes closely watch the passing tourists and locals.

Beside the wall of an old house, the cat finds shelter from the hot sun under the cool shade of a grapevine. Perhaps it is waiting for another round of affection from passersby or a scrap of food from kind hands.

This moment captures the atmosphere of Risan—a blend of ancient history, cozy streets, and an endless succession of generations of street cats that have become an integral part of life in this charming town.
